Five Common Rosacea Triggers

If you’re struggling with Rosacea, here are five common triggers to watch out for:

1. Environmental triggers:

  • Sun exposure – UV rays can worsen rosacea

  • Extreme temperatures – both hot and cold weather, or a sudden change temperature

  • Humidity – high or low levels of humidity can aggravate symptoms

2. Skincare triggers:

  • Harsh products – look out for the following ingredients in your skincare: alcohol, witch hazel, menthol and fragrance

  • Exfoliants – consider using a gentle chemical exfoliant such as beta hydroxy acids (BHAs)

  • Make sure you’re wearing SPF every day

3. Lifestyle triggers:

  • Stress

  • Saunas – the heat can dilate blood vessels and worsen redness

  • Exercise – specifically high intensity workouts

4.  Dietary triggers:

  • Spicy foods

  • Alcohol – in particular red wine and beer

  • Coffee

5. Health related triggers

  • Hormonal changes – menopause, pregnancy or menstruation can all contribute

  • Medications – blood pressure medications, vitamin B3 and topical steroids
